129 – 7 Day Package with 4 Day Choquequirao Trek

Day 1 – Arrival in Cusco at any time, you will then be picked up and transported to your accommodation for check in, after checking into your accommodation you will need to visit the agency office for a short briefing regarding your tour and trek, you will then have the remainder of the day to relax or explore Cusco on your own.
Day 2 – Today you will be able to sleep in a bit if you want, or you can explore the city of Cusco, making sure to return to your accommodation by 12:30 pm. You will then be picked up between 12:30 pm and 1:15 pm for the start of your ½ day city tour. During this tour you will visit the main Cathedral and then Qorikancha before taking a bus up to the sites overlooking the City, Saqsaywaman which contains some of the largest stones used in any Inka construction, Q’enqo a funerary center, Pucapucara which was a fort, and Tambomachay which is known as the Inca baths. After your tour you will be dropped off back in Cusco at approximately 6:30 pm
Day 3 – Early in the morning we will depart for the community of San Pedro de Cachora where we’ll arrive after approximately two and a half hours of travel. We will then prepare the mules and horses that will support the expedition before starting our hike which will take us about 21.00 km. Throughout the journey, we will enjoy a vast array of wildlife as well as small local towns like “La Colmena and La Aguada”. Allong the route we will stop at “Capuliyoc” the lookout from which to appreciate the whole Apurimac valley, and we will pass the villages of Huayhuacalle, Tinajayoc, Cocamasana, Torwisqana, and Chiquisqa, we will rest briefly in Chiquisqa and take on supplies of fresh water.
At noon we should reach the lower part of the route the banks of the Apurimac River where we will enjoy lunch and the beautiful sceenery of the impressive canyon of the Apurimac, after lunch we will cross the river and continue through the orchards before finally reaching Santa Rosa where we will camp, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 4 – After an early breakfast we’ll start walking towards our goal Choquequirao, reaching the site at at about the mid-morning, we will make our entrance to the site and explore the archaeological complex of Choquequirao. With luck we may even get to see some Condors that generally show at about 03:00 in the afternoon as they head to higher areas. After visiting Choquequirao we will head towards Raqaypata where we will camp, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 5 – After breakfast we’ll begin our return, heading down the same path that brought us up to Choquequirao, we will gradually decend from 3,033 meters, until we reach the banks of the Apurimac River in Rosalina at 1,950 meters where lunch will be served. After lunch we will continue on to Chiquisqa where we will find shade and cool water, have dinner and spend our final night caming.

Day 6 – After breakfast, we are all ready to begin the return to Cachora, today’s hike will last approximately 8 hours and we will enjoy our final views of the snow-capped mountain of Padrayoc that towers over the Apurimac canyon. Our hike will end when we arrive in San Pedro de Cachora, here we will have lunch and then continue by bus to the relaxing thermal baths of Cconoc for a little relaxation before returning to Cusco where we will arrive late in the evening.
Day 7 – Morning breakfast followed by transfer to the airport or bus station for your departure.
